John Dexter's Comic Passion

John Dexter sees a story in everything around him. As a child, he created characters out of crayons and wove stories about their imagined struggles with one another. This took him down the road of writing screenplays; his screenplay “The Weeping Trees” was a two-time semi-finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship by the Academy of Motion Pictures.

His attention shifted to the comic book genre. After creating Steel Hawk, he stumbled across the idea for Alpha Dogs. Alpha Dogs is centered around a dog named Buck who is mysteriously gifted with incredible powers. His owner, Ina, is on the run from a cabal of mercenaries who are determined to duplicate the dog’s abilities. After living in hiding for years, Ina divulges the dog’s powers to her new boyfriend. This begins a dangerous domino effect for Ina and Buck. Dexter partnered with Stone Tower Studios to bring the characters to life

Dexter’s talent gives a realistic, visceral feel to the artwork. After a successful Kickstarter campaign for Alpha Dogs issue one, Dexter began the arduous process of putting together issue two. Another successful Kickstarter campaign closed at the end of March. You can still purchase a copy of both Alpha Dogs issues by contacting Dexter at alphadogscomic@yahoo.com.
