July 2019 Artist of the Month: Daniel Stormont
Congratulations to Daniel Stormont for being our July 2019 Artist of the Month
I’ve been a resident of Berrien County for all of my forty-four years. I first started painting about ten years ago, though I’ve been an artist at heart since childhood. Initially, all I could paint were trees, branches actually, and without leaves. It took me some time to move on to other subjects, but I didn’t want to be known as the Tree Guy. That act of changing has become my artistic norm. Maybe I’m easily bored, but I constantly change subjects and styles from one painting to the next. I see the work of other artists, repeated themes, characters, colors and styles. I always assume they are much more disciplined than I am.
Music, conversations, pop culture and random thoughts tend to be the inspirations for my art. Most of my ideas are just strange things I’d like to see, so I paint them. My sons are my greatest art critics, they have such interesting perspectives. My wife keeps me motivated and runs the business side of the art studio. Self-promotion isn’t often an artist’s greatest skill.
