Archangel Rust & Regalia

Elkhart, IN

By Dan Breen

“I want people to feel good when they look at one of my sculptures. I want them to reminisce and recall the good people in their lives,” says Katie Archangel.

“The smiles are what make me continue to fashion the found art object sculptures that I create. We live in a crazy, stressful world, and somehow, my pieces take people back to a special time in their lives,” says Archangel.

Every Archangel sculpture is inevitably imbued with memories, made with every kind of unwanted, discarded, forgotten object that she can lay her hands on. A rusty child’s roller skate straight out of the scrap yard, an antique folding box camera from a flea market, and a bucket of corroded car parts in the corner of someone’s garage combine to create wistful statues.

You can find Archangel’s work at Bird’s Gotta Fly in Elkhart, Indiana.
