A violinist interviewed on NPR said you want to make a beautiful sound when you hear a beautiful sound. This simple statement is a compelling analogy for daily life. As we act with kindness and love for one another, others around us may feel the energy of our behavior. Our influence on others can be one generating a ripple around us. We can best influence others by listening to them first, seeking understanding. We can best influence by measuring our responses and words.

I was struck as I was planning the summer issue; we are trying to lift the voices of Michiana vibrating beauty.

Let us look kindly and gently upon one another. I remember going to Grateful Dead concerts. Walking into the show, someone was always chanting to the passing crowd, I need a miracle. They were hoping for the luck of a free ticket, the luck of a stranger’s kindness. Let us strive to be a miracle and the lucky ticket of kindness to others.

May peace find comfort in your home,

Dan Breen
