Gallery Show by Angélica Frausto

Angelica Frausto aka Nerdy Brown Kid is a social scientist by day and artist by night. She was born and raised in the south side of Chicago by Mexican immigrant parents. When she is not doing research, she draws to heal and raise awareness. Her work is for and about womxn.

The collection includes nine ink drawings of moths spreading words of affirmation and messages describing the experiences of womxn of color.  It is a scary time to be a womxn of color in the United States. Thousands have gone missing with little to no media coverage. Black, Indigenous, and trans womxn are particularly at risk. Womxn of color face systemic and interpersonal forms of racism and misogyny which “other” and dehumanize them. Racism and misogyny function as weapons that are slowly killing off the ones we love. I created these pieces as a way of coping with that reality.

Gallery Show is a new quarterly installment. This section is for an artist who shows a single theme across several pieces of art. Typically this art would have shown in a gallery, though not required. If you would be interested in showing your work in May release please contact us at panoplymichiana.com.
