Jessica Hightower August Guest Artist 24
My desire is for my art to foster positive shifts in perspectives. - Jessica Hightower
I believe we need more introspective dialogues, and my painting style encourages such contemplation. I began painting amidst a backdrop of prevalent illness, both physical and mental—depression, anxiety, and racism. My art serves as a conduit for engaging in these challenging conversations, a personal means of grappling with these issues
I depict people of color in a manner that demands attention—loud and bold. I want viewers to connect with and relate to the faces depicted, making it difficult to harbor animosity towards them.
The vivid colors in my work bring me a sense of bliss. Digging into how color inspires joy grounds me in the present moment. By manipulating unconscious predispositions and exploring color harmonies, I aim to inspire others to find similar joy.
