Love’s Rebuttal: Poem from “The Reason” by Albert Fonner
“With so many reasons to hate all the others
(Don’t matter that much, they’re your sisters and brothers),
Look into my eyes and you’ll see your reflection;
And look deeper, still, where you’ll see our connection.
An image so pure that we share in all ways;
A vision eternal, as ancient as days.
“Although we may differ, what’s shared is divine.
We’re from the same garden, perhaps the same vine.
However I choose to relate to you, friend,
Reflects on the One who will judge in the end.
Whatever the reason, then, one thing is known:
I’ll love you, my friend, for your life is my own.”
