Kimberley Lichty October Guest Artist 24

I'm Kimberley Lichty, also known as Sassy Artist Kimberley. I acquired the name Sassy (at an early age) from my dear old dad, Donald Hawk. My mother, Janet Hawk, introduced me to the arts at an early age, inspiring me to become a visual artist.

Rise up

This hand-painted abstract piece, inspired by Mental Health, illustrates the clouded mind and the maddening webs of our everyday thoughts that bring us to closing off. The mixed media gears you see within are elements of positive words of affirmation that can lift one up and help them "Rise Up."

Winds of Change

The Windy City of Chicago, IL inspires this piece. The strong winds (depicted using brush strokes within a pallet knife piece) illustrate the various changes that occur in our everyday lives.

Spending a number of years working with all variations of mediums, Mixed Media is where I fell in love and landed in creating.

In May of 2023, my focus and style of art changed dramatically. Our family suffered the loss of our only son and brother, Wesley, to depression via suicide. Wesley suffered from depression for over a decade prior to his suicide.

The Conversation

Inspired by Mental Health, this piece represents the conversations needed to improve mental health by having a healthy conversation by either being the recipient or the giver and sharing words of affirmation to build one up.

My art is not just a form of expression, but also a platform for advocacy. Today, I create pieces inspired by Positive Mental Health, Door Ways, and Abstract collections. Each piece sold within my collection is a testament to my commitment, as I choose to give back 10% to local and national chapters of Suicide Awareness.

Solo

This two-piece set is inspired by musicians busking on busy streets, trying to drown out the bustling sounds of everyday life. This piece is focused on the captivating sound of becoming lost is the movement of sound. Mixed-media gaged wire incorporated

With Mixed Media, I marry a plethora of random found, and intentional objects into each created piece. My three styles of Positive Mental Health, doorways, and Abstracts bring a cohesive use of vibrant colors that speak volumes about creativity in a positive state of mind. I create using professional grade brushes, pallet knives, sponges, and other tools of the trade onto professional grade, back stapled canvas, and collective wood panels where; "Bringing Visual Arts into Everyday Lives" is my mantra and passion.

In Side Out

Inspired by the many staircases we climb up and descend down on, this piece walks you through entering at any point, wrestling the many emotions you'll encounter along the way.

Mixed Media, from stamps to illustrated papers, is found within these walls, adding an extra dimension as you travel through the piece.

The piece is fully intentional for you to recognize and take a healthy journey within all your emotions.

Flutters of Love

A Mixed-Media piece with metal chain, scrap papers, and modeling paste incorporated into this piece illustrates the chains of the world that we often feel we cannot break away from. The incoming butterfly represents the peace we can if we can all learn to be patient with one another.

The lead image is It's Complicated, a hand-painted original piece using pallet knives. This piece was inspired by the abstract vibration of sound waves through color.
