Traveling Denali with Jeremy Vohwinkle
Canceled vacation plans this year. Staycations offered stale limited options. Cramped views have given us summer cabin fever. I wanted to offer you a chance to see vistas and breathtaking landscapes. We travel vicariously with Jeremy Vonwinkle to Alaska’s Denali National Park. Enjoy his photography of nature landscapes, open spaces and broad-shouldered mountains.
Vohwinkle has been taking photos since his college days in the 1999 when he spent part of his college career studying abroad in Europe. He purchased a quality 35 mm camera and lenses and began taking photos. Since then he has traveled to 41 states and photographed much of the American scenery. “Getting out and taking pictures of nature has just been where it is at for me,” says Vohwinkle.
“My trip to Denali was pretty spontaneous,” says Jeremy. Vohwinkle is the owner of the Prized Pig in Mishawaka, Indiana. “With the COVID thing it has been pretty tough and stressful in the restaurant industry.” He decided he needed a break from the business to focus himself. “Alaska has always been a bucket list trip.” He found round trip tickets to Alaska for next to nothing. “I knew I would never get there this cheap again. So, I went for it. I didn’t really have a plan. I had to figure it out when I got there.” Because he arrived at the end of the tourist season, he got the very last shuttle bus running to Denali for the season. With few people on the bus Vohwinkle was able to solo hike and see a lot of scenery.
Jeremy Vohwinle owns the Prized Pig with co-owner Grigor Petkov. Stop by and let him know you appreciate his photography. You can appreciate some excellent smoked BBQ too. See link at bottom of page.
