Michelle Herrli November Artist
My love for photography ignited in the 70’s when I was loaned a 35mm SLR camera. My passion flourished as I studied photographic techniques and art rules, attended workshops, and shot numerous rolls of film and Kodachrome. By the eighties my images were used in commercial brochures, calendars, catalogs, and for a US congressional race. In 2005 I switched my focus to my first love - Fine Art.
I enjoy capturing many different venues of photography, but my later works focus on natural occurring abstracts. They are captured through the lens. I find abstract art allows the viewer to imagine or to be drawn into the beauty of the composition, without any preconceived ideas or emotions about the image. My images are taken from rocks, reflections playing on water, color and light reflecting through glass or ice, patterns found in the world around us. Unless the rocks are polish, I photograph them wet in bright light which brings out their vivid colors.
I do my own printing with an Epson pro printer. I tried many different surfaces including paper and metal, but in the end, I find I like the abstracts printed on Epson exhibition canvas. Before stretching the image, I coat the canvas with a liquid laminated. I also have provided a printing service for local artists looking for quality results.
Since 2005 I have been exhibiting my work at art fairs around the country. My work also has been shown in galleries and rented by some businesses. My studio is in my home and I must say it has taken over my house. I am considering reclaiming my space and moving to a studio but I love the convenience of working at home. So do my pets!
It is a gift to be able to see the awe and wonder of life. It is a special delight that my three sisters share in the same love of fine art, each in their own unique discipline. We have had the pleasure of our booth displays being side by side at art fairs.
I am extremely grateful for the friendship and encouragement I have received from other artists who have said over the years I should continue to pursue my gift.
